Here at Silver Stirrup Stables, we have a variety of horses for you to learn the art of horseback riding on. We also have a handful of horses specially trained for competition and ready for students whom we think deserve to be a Training Student, which means they will get to work with a horse of their own.
Lesson Horses=Underlined
Competition Horses=Bold
Bear
This 26-year-old chestnut gelding is one of the sweetest mounts we have. Big enough for beginner adults but still possessing that old spark to jump fences, Bear will take care of you and is often the favorite at our barn.
Tinkerbell
Tinkerbell is a Welsh Pony mare, small and old, grey-coated and perfect for a beginner. She is also a good mare to learn to jump on, though she never goes higher than tiny crossrails. Just don't annoy her too much.
Angel
Angel is one of our fastest horses. This bay mare tends to run away with riders who are too rough for her, so watch out. She does have very smooth gaits, though, and her canter is wonderful to ride.
Bullet
Bullet is quite young for a lesson horse but almost bomb-proof. We let experienced riders ride him, as doing so increases his knowledge of how to act as the perfect lesson horse he will soon be. He is a good jumper, but due to his small size cannot go very high.
Joyah
Joyah is a bit lazy, and has odd-feeling gaits most of the time, but she is an honest jumper and can take you far. She is a unique liver chestnut color and has just the right height for both children and adults.
Blimey
Blimey is an iron grey Connemara pony tall enough for teenagers or short adults, and with a personality pleasing enough for intermediate riders. He bucks sometimes, and can unseat even the most skilled of dressage competitors, but when he puts his mind to his work he can really shine. Jumps anything, period.
Freckles
Freck has an eye-catching strawberry roan color and is a good dressage horse as well as a reliable jumper. Though he refuses without enough encouragement from the rider, he has the smoothest canter in Silver Stirrup Stables and has won his own share of ribbons.
Hanora
Hanora needs some work. This 13-year-old chestnut Dutch Warmblood mare has an extremely lazy mind of her own and has decided that she will refuse all jumps her rider does not ride her properly to. This means she needs plenty of leg. Her mouth is quite heavy on the bit but she can be a good dressage horse once you really make her do what you want, having very good balance. She'll also jump high--if you can make her.
